With the success of last year’s event and the impact that the New England United Methodist churches made in the life of these Orphan/Forster children and the inspiration to churches around the nation, “N.U.H.O.P.E” has added a number of opportunities for churches in the “new” New England Annual Conference to get involved and make a difference in the lives of these children and their “forever families” that take them in.
Last year’s event had two major impacts on the Orphan/Forster children in the world.
The first was that with about 24 of our churches participating, (which is a very small portion of our churches) partnered with Food For Orphans, Over 3000 meals were purchase for orphaned children in third world countries; this allowed these children to have at least one full balanced meal per day.
Secondly it inspired one of our very own pastors, Pastor Grace Mazhandu to follow God’s call back home to her native land of Zimbabwe and create a new orphanage for children affected by and with the AIDS/HIV virus. Through the work of Pastor Grace Mazhanda, and the Corinna United Methodist Church in Corinna Maine and a partnership with “N.U.H.O.P.E” the WE C.A.R.E Village of Zimbabwe was started. Pastor Grace has been appointed by Bishop Weaver and Cabinet to Extension Ministry as Director of the WE C.A.R.E Village of Zimbabwe. Nearly $30,000 has been raised in support of the orphanage, several tons of supplies and equipment have been shipped to Zimbabwe and two mission teams from the New England Conference have already been to Zimbabwe to work on this mission.
